My uPVC handle lifts but the key will not turn. What does that mean?
That combination usually points at the cylinder or the cam behind it rather than the multipoint mechanism, because the handle lift proves the gearbox is still driving the hooks. It is not conclusive on its own, and alignment problems can produce the same symptom.
Is a uPVC lock repair cheaper than a replacement?
Usually, when the fault is genuinely in one component such as a cylinder, handle or keep. Once the gearbox itself has failed, the economics change, because the gearbox is often only available as part of a full mechanism.
What should I measure before ordering a euro cylinder?
Measure from the centre of the fixing screw hole to the outside face of the door, then from the same centre point to the inside face. Those two figures, in that order, describe the cylinder. Guessing from the overall length is the usual cause of a badly fitting replacement.
